About Us

Due to their international orientation, the acquisition of competencies in foreign languages and intercultural communication is an integral part of almoust all study programmes at the European University. The Viadrina Language Centre is the central, academic institution in charge of planning and implementing appropriate linguistic and intercultural programmes.

The Viadrina Language Centre offers a wide range of courses in 8 to 10 languages, starting from basic knowledge to a high level of proficiency needed for meeting specific purposes in academic contexts. Our general goal is to enable our students to act effectively in one or more foreign languages in the context of study and academically based professions.

The course programmes and certificates delivered by the Viadrina Language Centre are accredited within UNIcert®, an internationally recognised "quality seal" for foreign language teaching and testing at the university. They are thus based on the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its recently published Companion Volume.
